The People’s Democratic Party increased its majority in the National Assembly after winning the by-election in Trongsa recently. The ruling party now holds 31 out of 47 seats. It added one more seat through the new Member of Parliament from Nubi-Tangsibji Constituency, Phuntsho Dendup.
Phuntsho Dendup formally assumes office today. As is tradition, he received his Kabney and Patang before taking the oath of office. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court administered the ceremony.
The 40-year-old parliamentarian represents the People’s Democratic Party in the recent by-election. Before assuming office, he worked in the private sector. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Gedu College of Business Studies. Before joining the PDP in 2018, he also served as the branch manager of Bhutan Development Bank in Trongsa.
“Based on the principles of oneness and unity, I will continue to serve with fairness and equality, without bias, whether they are supporters of the Bhutan Tendrel Party or the PDP. From now on, I will always prioritise the people of Nubi-Tangsibji, to support them and to fulfil His Majesty’s vision to the best of my ability,” said Phuntsho Dendup, Nubi-Tangsibji MP, Trongsa.
Phuntsho promised to improve the roads. This is what he said last month.
“We will blacktop the road of more than 28 kilometres from Ueling to Mangdephu and over 7 kilometres from Jongthang village to Bemji Gewog Centre. Likewise, we pledge to lay base course on the farm road of Pang and Bemji, Kaba, Dhaba, Simphu, Thang Nyal, Chela, Drengzhing and Tangsibjichiwog road,” said Phuntsho Dendup, Nubi-Tangsibji MP, Trongsa.
A promise has been made. With just a little over three years left in the government’s tenure, only time will tell whether Trongsa’s road will become a priority.
