For visitors, a trip to iconic monuments such as Paro Taktsang or the Memorial Chorten is about breathtaking views, spiritual connection, and cultural wonder. They can now expect a cleaner and well-equipped toilet to enhance their experience. A private company is now managing the toilets in Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha to ensure better cleanliness and upkeep. The company gave a three-day training to cleaners.

One of them is 75-year-old Damber Singh Chhetri. He has been managing the public toilet at Chudzom check post for nine years.

He said that through this training, he is more confident in providing better service to the public.

Previously, some cleaners did not receive a fixed salary and had to rely on toilet usage fees. With the new arrangement, they will now receive a monthly salary.

“We get more training now, and I am happy with it. Because of the training, I learned, and I will try my best to work better now.”

Karma Choden, also a caretaker/cleaner said, “Because of the training, we could find differences in the way we work. We can be of help to other people as well”

They will be monitored regularly.

Namgay Tshering, the managing director of Pro-Touch said, “As this training is related to tourism, it also benefits their experience in tourism.”

Moreover, visitors can scan a code to provide feedback for improvements.

The company has been working with the Department of Tourism since 2023 and has been gradually expanding its areas of management.

Visitors can now expect better public toilet services at eight popular tourist sites across the three districts.
