The National Assembly, today, passed the Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2025 with 43 out of 45 members voting in favour. The bill is now forwarded to the National Council for further deliberation.

The Assembly, last week, endorsed a reduction in the proposed GST rate from seven to five per cent.

The long-discussed GST is set to come into effect from January next year.

It will replace the existing sales tax and consolidate various indirect taxes into a single GST system.
