The Film Association of Bhutan launched D4B Entertainment today, a platform created to offer a formal and consistent channel for screening Bhutanese films in Australia. In recent years, Bhutanese film producers have taken their movies abroad, but often faced logistical and operational challenges.
Although Bhutanese films help preserve cultural identity among the Bhutanese diaspora in Australia, producers say they often struggle with issues such as accommodation, visa processing, e-ticketing, and poor screening infrastructure.
D4B Entertainment, founded by actor and entrepreneur Dechen T Seldon, aims to change that.
The platform provides accessible venues, professional audiovisual setups, and a team that handles logistics, marketing, and community outreach.
“We have a strong team across Australia. We manage everything from logistics and marketing to event planning and community engagement. We don’t just screen films, we create full cultural experiences. Our goal is to build lasting bonds between filmmakers and audiences.”
The Film Association of Bhutan and filmmakers back home have welcomed the initiative.
Yeshey Tshering, the president of the Film Association of Bhutan said “D4B is very timely. More Bhutanese and foreigners in Australia are watching Bhutanese films. But without a proper channel, producers face many challenges.”
Sonam Penjor, a movie producer/actor said “We have many talented directors and producers, but they lack a platform. In places like Perth, Western Australia, we need a space where Bhutanese people can come together and celebrate. It helps not just filmmakers but the whole community.”
Tandin Sonam, a movie director/actor said “I’m thrilled. When I first went to Australia to screen a film, it hit me—we need a bridge between our film industry and the diaspora. If such a bridge existed, it would greatly benefit everyone in our film world.”
As part of the launch event, D4B Entertainment signed an MoU with Bhutan Airlines and the Film Association of Bhutan to support the international promotion and mobility of Bhutanese films.
