Lhakhang robbery on the rise

LhakhangRobberyAbout 12 cases of Lhakhang robbery were reported last year, according to the records maintained with the Crime Branch of the Royal Bhutan Police. The figure is relatively higher than that of 2011.

In 2011, about seven cases of nangtens robbery were recorded.

Dzongkhag wise, Wangduephodrang saw the highest number of burglary of Lhakhang Nangtens last year. Thimphu, Paro and Bumthang were second on the list.

Recently, four elephant tusks from Ugyen Tshemo Lhakhang at Paro Taktshang were robbed. Similarly, a 330 paged golden scripture was stolen from Nyakhar Lhakhang in Zhemgang.

From the investigation, police found out that there were illicit transactions of elephant tusk taking place across the border.

Police on duty at various entry points in and around the country have been alerted. Thorough checking is being carried out.
