The Bhutan National Digital Identity, or the Bhutan NDI app, was launched in October 2023. However, even today, many people still seem unfamiliar with the app, despite it having over 200,000 users. As the country gears up for the digital transformation, the GovTech Agency has begun awareness programmes in five districts, starting yesterday.
Most of the people in Shompangkha gewog seemed unaware of the app’s existence. Helping one another, everyone here is seen installing the app.
Rinzin Norbu from Kencholing said “It is convenient and time-efficient, allowing access from anywhere.”
Likewise, Karma Tenzin said “Previously, people had to visit the gewog office just to get basic information. But now, with introduction of NDI, we can easily access and share information through our phones”
Ash Man Rai, Shompangkha Mangmi said “The transition may not be smooth at first, especially since not everyone is tech savvy or educated. However, with continued support from GovTech, the gewog and the Dzongkhag, this digital shift will be beneficial in the long run.”
The Bhutan NDI is a mobile wallet where people can safely store personal information and use it to access government and business services online.
As the nation moves towards a digital future, the NDI app is set to play a key role in making services faster, easier, and more accessible for everyone.
