For people living in Monggar and surrounding districts with less limited recreational facilities, the Rechanglu Nature-based Recreational Park was just what they needed. Located at Saling Gewog in Monggar, the park has quickly become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

On weekends and holidays, the park becomes a popular spot, bustling with people looking to unwind and enjoy quality time with family and friends.

The park offers a variety of attractions, including cycling, a zip line, a children’s playground, and a footpath.

Visitors can also relax in canopy seating, stroll through the forest, enjoy scenic river views from the deck, and indulge in a traditional stone bath.

The park also provides designated camping areas where visitors can set up tents and enjoy a campfire under the night sky.

Entry fees range from 10 to 20 Ngultrum, with additional nominal charges for activities such as bicycle rentals, the zip line, the hot stone bath, and campfire services.

“I never imagined having such a place nearby. I came here to see off a friend, and my friend told me about this park, so we decided to check it out. It’s really nice! It’s my first time here, and I’m a farmer. We’re usually busy with farming, but sometimes I think of bringing my children here to enjoy a meal and just relax,” said Sonam Choden, a farmer from Ngatshang Gewog.

Sangay Wangchen, a student, said, “Coming here, I feel relaxed and happy. I even got a chance to try cycling. We go to school five days a week, and it’s nice to have a break here. I’m really enjoying my day.”

The park is managed by a group of five youths from Masang-Daza village, who also run a cafeteria on-site. Together, they earn approximately 60,000 ngultrum a month, with five percent of their total income deposited to the government.

The park, covering around five acres of land, was established by the Divisional Forest Office and the district administration in 2023.

The development of the park was funded by the UNDP through the GEF Eco-Tourism project at a cost of approximately 11 million ngultrum.

As the only recreational park in the district, this Park offers a peaceful retreat for residents and visitors, enriching the community’s well-being and supporting local youth entrepreneurship.
