Residents of the eastern and central regions can expect an uninterrupted fuel and LPG cylinder supply. A new petroleum, oil, and lubricant depot opened in Garmani, Monggar. With a capacity of two million litres, the depot can refuel approximately 40,000 cars or 25,000 trucks with larger fuel tanks.

The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Employment inaugurated the fuel depot yesterday.

It is around 13 kilometres from Monggar town towards Gyalpoishing.

The depot consists of key infrastructure including an underground fuel reservoir, fuel unloading and loading structures, an LPG warehouse, and a fire hydrant system.

There is also an administration block and residential quarters on the depot’s premises which span over 10 acres.

The construction began in August 2022 and was completed in June of last year.

The fuel depot can store a million litre each of petrol and diesel. It was built to ensure a reliable supply of fuel for the residents and businesses in the two regions.

“In the event of natural disasters such as roadblocks or border strikes that disrupt fuel and LPG supply from our suppliers, we will utilise our reservoir to ensure an uninterrupted supply, without impacting the daily lives of the public,” said Rinchen Lhazom, the Chief Trade Officer at the Department of Trade.

The depot also has over 6000 LPG cylinders stocked in its warehouse.

“We have stocked 114 kilolitres of petrol and 111 kilolitres of diesel as of now. We have requested an additional amount and will stock the remaining capacity after getting the budget from the Ministry of Finance.”

The Department of Trade handed over the depot to the Regional Office of Industry, Commerce and Employment in Monggar.

The depot was constructed spending nearly Nu 325M, funded by the Government of India.
