Phuentshogling town is getting a major facelift. The core town is undergoing redevelopment, with the thromde transforming the Zangdopelri area to enhance both aesthetics and visitor experience. The redevelopment is aimed at making the area up to the pedestrian terminal accessible only to pedestrians, gradually.
The redevelopment is being carried out as part of the overall development of urban design plan prepared in 2017.
Thromde officials said the current work is undertaken as first phase to improve pedestrian facilities and infrastructure.
Uttar Kumar Rai, Phuentshogling Thrompon said “Although not immediately, it is important to pedestrianize the area slowly. Many may not be aware but it is essential for economic growth so we have to plan and be ready. This is because once the Amochhu township project completes, there won’t be much here.”
He added the project will also include construction of utility duct for underground utility cables.
Currently, he says, cables are laid overhead which are not aesthetically pleasing. Moreover, instead of blacktop, heavy duty tiles will be laid on the road around Zangdopelri.
Thromde officials said they are expediting the work to avoid inconveniences caused to people, especially the business community in the area.
Such redevelopment is expected to eventually help the growth of businesses in the area. The project, worth 2.8 million ngulturm, is set for completion by the end of next month—promising a more vibrant and accessible space for residents and visitors alike.
