His Holiness the Je Khenpo consecrated the Singye Choeling Tshuglhakhang at Dewathang Gewog in Samdrup Jongkhar today. The monastery was constructed to mark the 70th birthday of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
With Choe Long Truel Sum as the main relic, the Singye Choeling Tshuglhakhang is now a sacred site for daily prayers and rituals for the people of Samdrup Jongkhar.
The monastery was built in Gyazor village after three villagers offered land to His Holiness the Je Khenpo.
“We did not sell our land. After His Holiness expressed the wish to build a temple here, we gladly offered our land,”said Phobzang, a villager.
“It will benefit Dewathang Gewog. Now, students wishing to become a monk no longer need to travel far; they can study right here,” said Sonam Penjor, another villager.
Tshering Penjor, a villager said, “My parents offered the land. Though they are no longer with us, I am grateful for their decision, as it will now benefit our community.”
It will serve as a branch school of the Samdrup Jongkhar Rabdey.
“In every Dratshang, we aim to establish a branch school. This monastery will serve as a branch school for the Rabdey. The villagers now have a proper place to offer their prayers,” said Tashi Norbu, Drungchen with Samdrup Jongkhar Rabdey.
During the consecration ceremony, His Holiness awarded a token of appreciation to Sonam Dukpa, a businessman who invested more than Nu 47 M in constructing the temple.
As His Holiness the Je Khenpo administers a blessing, the villagers here pray for lasting benefits of the monastery to the community.
