Training youth is important for building a nation’s future. It ensures economic growth, leadership continuity, and social progress. In line with this, more than 200 students attended a winter engagement programme in Trashigang.
The programme was organized by the Young Girls’ Circle group from Sherubtse College, in collaboration with the Youth Center and the RENEW Community Center Service, both based in Trashigang
The three-day programme featured sessions on leadership, communication skills, mental and sexual health, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and Driglam Namzha.
Tshering Yoesel Choki from Ura Central School in Bumthang said “We were given practical lessons on Driglam Namzha, including how to show respect, bow, and receive awards from higher officials. It can be embarrassing not knowing the proper way to accept an award, but now, I feel more confident.”
Tashi Wangchuk from Udzorong Central School in Trashigang said “Young people who grow up in towns are often more confident, whereas those of us from rural areas tend to fall behind. When we first attend programmes like this, we feel hesitant, lack courage, and struggle to make friends. But after a few days, we start interacting with each other, gain courage, and gradually build confidence.”
“I have gained valuable skills through this program, including the understanding that we shouldn’t feel demoralized if we don’t perform well academically. There are other ways to sustain and lead a fulfilling life. For example, we learned photography skills and how to earn by uploading content on social media,” said Sonam Youden, a student of Tashitse HSS in Trashigang.
This programme has empowered the youth of Trashigang, equipping them with essential skills and paving the way for a brighter future.
