It is that time of the year when families across the country come together in good spirits for a sumptuous meal. Not just that. It is also the day of the year when Bhutanese families take bath according to astrological advice. Thruebab or Blessed Rainy Day, is considered a festive occasion for Bhutanese.
According to the Pangrizampa College for Astrology, the auspicious time to rinse off and cleanse bad deeds, obstacles, and defilements starts at 1.13 AM. Astrologers say that all-natural water resources will remain sanctified for a week.
It is believed that taking a shower on the Blessed Rainy Day will cleanse off sins and accumulated bad karma. According to the College for Astrology, people should face north when bathing.
“Thruebab is considered an auspicious occasion. Observing a vegetarian diet throughout the day is highly encouraged. Additionally, participating in religious activities, such as offering butter lamps and circumambulating lhakhangs, can greatly enhance one’s spiritual practice and contribute positively to both present and future lives,” said Karma Dendup, a teacher at Pangrizampa College for Astrology.
He added that during blessed rainy day, it is believed that all water bodies will be sanctified even if there is no rainfall.
Thruebab marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the harvest season in the country.
