In celebration of the first birthday of Her Royal Highness Gyalsem Sonam Yangden Wangchuck, prayers and butter lamps were offered at Tashichhodzong and Changangkha Lhakhang today. The Central Monastic Body led the prayer ceremonies which were attended by the prime minister, Members of Parliament, and senior government officials.

The prime minister, cabinet ministers and senior government officials gathered at the Kuenray of the Tashichhodzong for a special prayer ceremony led by Dorji Lopen this morning.

The celebration included a cake-cutting ceremony and the lighting of butter lamps in honour of Her Royal Highness Gyalsem’s first birthday.

Later, the ministers and senior government officials continued the celebrations by offering prayers and lighting butter lamps at the Changangkha Lhakhang, following the customary practice of seeking blessings for newborns in Thimphu.

On this auspicious occasion, people extended their heartfelt felicitations to Her Royal Highness.

“Today, on the auspicious occasion of the first birth anniversary of Her Royal Highness Gyalsem. The central monastic body and the administrative institution across the country are privileged to offer our deepest prayers for the long life and wellbeing of Her Royal Highness The Gyalsem,” said Khenpo Choten Dorji, secretary at Council for Administrative and Development Affairs, Central Monastic Body.

“On this auspicious day which also coincides with the Thimphu Dromchoe, we would like to wish Her Royal Highness Gyalsem a prosperous life,” said Tenzin Dorji, a teacher.

“On this special occasion, we would like to wish her Royal Highness a happy birthday and happy Domchhoe,” said Jamyang Seldon, a student.

Gyalsem Sonam Yangden Wangchcuk was born on 9th September coinciding with the 25th day of the 7th month of the Female Water Rabbit year at the Lingkana Palace in Thimphu last year.
