Bhutan scholar and thought leader, Karma Phuntsho (PhD) will receive the prestigious 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Award later this year.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation announced the Loden Foundation founder as one of the award recipients on Saturday.

The award is widely regarded as Asia’s premier prize and highest honour and is also often called Nobel Prize of Asia.

Karma Phuntsho is recognised for his efforts in harmonising Bhutan’s rich heritage with its modern challenges, inspiring young Bhutanese to take pride in Bhutan’s culture.

Beyond his academic achievements, including the bestseller “History of Bhutan,” Karma Phuntsho has dedicated his life to preserving Bhutan’s cultural heritage and empowering the next generation through education and social entrepreneurship.

Through the Loden Foundation, which he founded in 1999, he has provided scholarships, created jobs, and preserved Bhutan’s heritage through digital documentation.
