Lives will become comfortable for the farmers cultivating crops at Gongribalay of Pema Gatshel’s Norbugang Gewog. Their farmland will have a power supply by the end of this year if everything goes as planned. Following requests from the farmers, the Bhutan Power Corporation office in the district conducted a preliminary survey to provide electricity for the farmland.

Their faces brimming with joy, landowners of Gongribalay in Nyingshingborang chiwog accompany BPC officials who are here to conduct a preliminary survey to lay electric cable for the farmland.

The team identified locations to install electric poles in consultation with the farmers.

Tawpo, a resident said “We don’t have water problem here and the place is suitable to grow any kind of crops, both in the summer and winter. The only challenge is the lack of power supply. Once we have the electricity, we are thinking of settling here by bringing our cattle along.”

“Once we receive the power supply, we can stay away from the heat and we can easily prepare meals using electric cooking appliances,” said Dorji, another resident.

Kezang Tashi, who is also a resident said “If we get electricity, we are ready to start construction. Some are already preparing. We decided not to construct houses here as there was no light. Now, we are hoping we will get power supply within five to six months. And hopefully, it will not take a year.”

With the groundwork initiated, the villagers are hopeful that their lives will become safer and that their crop yields will increase as they can protect their fields better when the farmland is connected with a power supply.

The power supply will benefit more than 20 households who will be settling at Gongribalay for most of their time.
