To improve the service efficiency at the Thromde Health Centres in Thimphu, the health ministry will provide additional health workers and equipment. Health Minister, Tandin Wangchuk shared this during the meet the press session, on Friday. This initiative aims to reduce congestion at the national referral hospital and enhance primary healthcare services.

The minister said that while the centres have X-ray, ultrasound machines, and laboratories, not all can offer these services due to a shortage of health workers.

“We will deploy a doctor each at Motithang, Semtokha and Babena Thromde Health Centres. Additionally, one medical staff will be assigned to the outpatient departments at these centres. A specialist will also visit the centres weekly on a rotational basis.”

The minister added that each centre will also receive a hygiene dental chair. However, the Depsi Health Centre will not get these facilities immediately due to its lower patient turnout.

The minister said that if the number of patients increases, the centre will receive these facilities. The ministry expects to provide additional health workers and equipment by the end of September.

The centres are managed by the national referral hospital. Phuentshogling Thromde also has a similar centre. The Thromde Health Centres were built last year with financial support from the Asian Development Bank.
