Commemorating its Golden Jubilee today, the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health under the Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) launched a programme for Master of Science in Midwifery. Her Royal Highness Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck launched the course.

Her Royal Highness Ashi Kesang Wangmo Wangchuck graced the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health.

Although the master’s course was launched today, it is set to commence only from 2025 with the curriculum yet to be finalised.

“We are yet to finalise the curriculum and hopefully in early 2025, we will be able to start the programme. The curriculum has gone through a series of reviews and is in the process of validation, and this is going to be a 24-month master’s programme where we will be focusing more on research undertakings, that will help in strengthening evidence-based practices,” said Nidup Dorji, deputy dean of Public Health and Allied Health Sciences.

The course is expected to improve and strengthen mother and child health care in the country.

“Through the launch of this programme, we believe that the health of the mother and the child would be secured and lead to the production of healthy citizens for the nation. Compared to a few years ago, our maternal mortality rate has reduced, and we believe that through the introduction of this programme, we can reduce it further,” added the deputy dean.

The faculty also launched its Golden Jubilee Book and inaugurated its logo. Chencho Dorjee, the former dean of the faculty was awarded the ‘Recognition for Lifetime Contribution’. The celebration was attended by the health minister, other dignitaries and graduates of the university.
