Logchina Gewog residents call for urgent need of bridge reconstruction

Monsoon is around the corner, and residents of Logchina Gewog in Chhukha are worried. About a year ago, one of the crucial bridges connecting the village at Chimti was washed away. The gewog office reportedly approached relevant offices to rebuild the bridge but was told there was no budget.

Today, the stream at Chimti is small, and vehicles ply with ease without a bridge. However, the scenario changes drastically when the monsoon sets in and the stream swells.

The bridge and the route connecting Logchina serve as a lifeline to other gewogs such as Dungna, Maedtekha, Geling, and a chiwog of Phuentshogling Gewog.

The bridge was washed away in July last year.

“The Chimti bridge is necessary for us. People of four gewogs use this, Logchina Middle Secondary School’s ration is reached using this road, the ambulance of Khatekha Hospital has to travel via this road, and even the Logchina Primary Healthcare Centre is along this route. It is fine right now, but we are worried about how we will travel during the summer,” said  Tham Bdr Rai, Logchina Gup.

“The stream becomes big when it rains. It is fine right now. During that time there are chances of our problems becoming significant. It has happened in the past. We hope the government will look into this,” said Birkha Bdr Limbu, a resident of Logchina.

He added that people will be helpless during emergencies. Another concern is that they will not be able to take their produce to the market.

Logchina residents are also worried about the stream at Takti where there is no bridge.

With relevant offices informing the gewog that there is no budget to construct a new bridge, people are pinning their hopes on the new government.
