Bhutan’s leading author, Kunzang Choden, launched ‘Membar Tsho-The Flaming Lake’ and ‘Ogyen Choling- A Manor in Central Bhutan’, in Thimphu yesterday.

Ogyen Choling- A Manor in Central Bhutan is about the author’s ancestral home.

“Other book is something that came to me very naturally. I thought a lot about it. I think our children are looking to other cultures and stories and yet neglecting our own wonderful stories, a wonder people in our own culture, in our history and the most obvious person to write about is Pema Lingpa,” said Kunzang Choden.

The books were published in her publishing house.

Kunzang Choden said she has set up a publishing house as a family business. She says it is very difficult to find a publisher nowadays. “It is time and age when everybody is reading e-books… Everybody thinks publishing houses will not be very lucrative. I think Bhutan has to experience what it is with publishing.”

Her first novel, ‘The circle of Karma’, was published by Penguin Books India, the largest English-language publishing house in India. The book has been translated into several languages including Dutch.

Kunzang Choden has also authored short stories and folktales.
