Marking a significant milestone in the healthcare partnership between Bhutan and India, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay together with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 150-bed Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital in the capital today. The hospital was constructed by spending Nu 1.5bn which was fully funded by the Government of India.

The construction of the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck Mother and Child Hospital which was carried out in two phases, began in 2017 and was completed in March this year.

The newly constructed hospital would add value to the quality of mother and child health services in the country and also decongest the National Referral Hospital.

The hospital will provide high-end facilities for paediatrics, gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, and paediatric intensive care among others.

Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graced the hospital’s groundbreaking ceremony in 2015.
