Thimphu police have detained two Bhutanese men who had allegedly deceived more than 35 Bhutanese of employment opportunities in Singapore. The men, aged 26 and 35, were arrested on Tuesday. According to police, they have allegedly duped nearly Nu 4 M from the dupes.

Police said the main suspect who is 26-year-old along with a Singaporean created a WhatsApp group and asked the 35-year-old suspect to invite more people to the group.

They then asked for Nu 93,000 which is 1,500 Singaporean dollars as airfare and to process visa.

Police said the 26-year-old suspect confessed that he had allegedly transferred the amount to several individuals residing in Singapore and Australia.

Police added that the suspect did not hold any license to process visas.

According to the victims who did not want to come on camera, they were told that they would be working in car washing and cleaning services in Singapore.

Victims further said the suspect and the Singaporean promised them that they would reach Singapore in November last year. However, the suspects allegedly kept on rescheduling the departure dates.

The victims lodged a formal complaint with the Police on Tuesday after they found the employment opportunity suspicious as they hadn’t received their air tickets and visas.

The Police arrested the suspects on the same day. The case is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, following persistent complaints, two individuals got their money refunded before lodging complaints with the police.
