The fourth season of the departmental football tournament kicked off yesterday in Thimphu. The opening match was played between the GovTech football team and the Agri Transformer, a team from the agriculture department.

The GovTech Team secured a two-one victory against Agri Transformer.

GovTech are the season three champions of the departmental football tournament.

In the second match, yesterday, the team from NPPF inflicted a heavy nine-nil on the RCSC team.

According to the organiser, such a tournament fosters coordination among various agencies and ministries while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

“The main reason for organising this departmental football tournament is firstly to bring close connection and interaction between different government employees. Secondly, to keep ourselves healthy, we need exercise. So, I organised this tournament. We have 19 teams and each team will play for 90 minutes. The tournament will be played for almost 40 days,” said Dawala Dawala, the organiser.

The organiser added that the matches will be played after office hours.

The 19 teams are divided into four groups and will play in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

The winners will be awarded cash prizes.
