A landslide triggered by the incessant rainfall has killed two people in Dorokha today. The continuous downpour, landslides, flash floods and falling boulders in many parts of the southern areas have also caused several roadblocks across the country.
As per the advisory shared by the National Center for Hydrology and Meteorology, southern belts of the country recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours.

A 65-year-old woman and her 11-year-old granddaughter died this morning in Dorokha when a massive landslide washed away their home. The girl was a class two student at Dorokha Central School. Their bodies were recovered from about 100 meters below the location of their house amongst the debris. The Dorokha Drungkhag disaster team led by the Dungpa, Royal Bhutan Police and volunteers from the gewog assisted in recovering the bodies. The bodies were handed over to their relatives.

Similarly, the heavy rainfall in Phuntshogling triggered several flash floods, landslides and blockages across the Thromde. People residing along the Om chhu river had to be evacuated at about 3 AM today due to swollen Om chhu river. Workshops along the Toorsa area also saw overflowing drains filling the area. Schools under Thromde also had to postpone their examinations due to the damages caused by the incessant rainfall. However, no casualties were recorded in the region.

The heavy rainfall in Gelephu damaged the Gelephu-Sarpang highway bridge. SSB police mini truck was also washed away along with the bridge. The incident is believed to have occurred at around 3 AM in the morning, today. The public transport service from Gelegphu to Zhemgang, Trongsa, Panbang and Bumthang were also cancelled with following several roadblocks along the highway.

Likewise, the public bus plying towards Phuntshogling from Lhamoidzingkha Drungkhag was also cancelled due to the swollen river.

And in Zhemgang, a total of eight farm roads of Bjoka and Goshing gewog have been damaged by the flash flood caused by the rainfall. However, no damage to human has been reported so far.

According to various road officials, works to clear the roadblocks are in full swing while some minor roadblocks have been cleared and are made open to traffic.
