A mangmi and three tshogpas have been elected today. The Election Commission of Bhutan conducted by-elections for the posts in Paro, Samdrup Jongkhar, Lhuentse, and Phuentshogling Thromde. BBS was able to gather the provisional results after the polls ended this evening.

In Chhukha, 47-year-old Ganesh Rai was elected as the Thromde Tshogpa of Pasakha Demkhong under Phuentshogling Thromde after the demise of the incumbent. He secured 63 yes votes and 1 no vote.

Similarly, in Paro, 43-year-old Yuden from Hungrelkha-Jangsarbu Chiwog of Hungrel Gewog secured 150 yes votes and 44 no votes. She was the lone candidate to contest for the post of Hungrel Gewog’s mangmi after the incumbent left overseas.

Meanwhile, in Lhuentse, 34-year-old Tashi Jatsho, also the lone candidate for the post of Dungkar Chiwog Tshogpa in Kurtoed Gewog received 172 yes votes and 6 no votes. The election was held after the demise of the incumbent.

And in Samdrup Jongkhar, 31-year-old Mon Singh Rai, the lone candidate for Damsagang Toed Chiwog Tshogpa of Samrang Gewog secured 5 yes votes and 0 no votes. The chiwog has only 15 eligible voters. According to the ECB, the election was held as the post remained vacant since 2021 due to the non-availability of aspiring candidates.

The ECB said official results will be declared tomorrow.
