In a continuous effort to create awareness on violence free society, the nation observed the International day for the Elimination of Violence against Women today. The day is being observed to draw world’s attention to end the pandemic of violence against women and girls, which devastates lives, breakdowns communities and stalls development.

This year it was observed with a local theme, Commit, Act and Demand while the global theme was, ‘a promise is a promise’.

As part of the programme, a study on violence against women conducted by the National Commission for Women and Children was also launched.  It was launched by Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck.

Meanwhile, the RENEW volunteers conducted an awareness programme with the public and relevant stake holders in Bumthang. During the programme,  more volunteers were recruited for the community based support system in Bumthang.

The United Nations General Assembly designated  November 25 as the International Day for the eliminations of Violence against Women, and invited governments, international organisations and NGO’s to organise activities designed to raise public awareness.

RENEW is a Bhutan’s Civil Society Organisation dedicated to empower and provide relief to disadvantaged women and adolescent girls.
