His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck graced the inauguration of the new secretariat building of the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation (BTFEC) in Thimphu today. His Royal Highness was accompanied by Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay.
The construction of the building, which began in 2020 with a budget of over Nu 100 M, will now provide a central hub for the Trust Fund’s efforts. It will also accommodate the Bhutan for Life and the Bhutan Health Trust Fund. The BTFEC is the world’s first environmental trust fund, established in 1991 as a collaborative venture between the government, the United Nations Development Programme and the World Wildlife Fund.
The Bhutan Trust Fund provides leadership and funding for the preservation and promotion of the country’s biodiversity and environment along with addressing ecological and climate-related issues
