Over 60 students have attended the first Nachung Scout Leadership Training at Gyalposhing Higher Secondary School in Monggar. The ten-day training ended on Friday. It was to promote leadership skills and instil values of loyalty and a sense of patriotism.

The training included physical exercise, drill practice, problem-solving challenges, rafting, cultural shows, spiritual visits, games, basic emergency preparedness, and jungle survival techniques.

Leadership scouts and adult leaders facilitated the training. Through the training, the scouts are expected to develop leadership skills, boost confidence, and promote a sense of responsibility.

Additionally, the training focuses on preparing them for their transition into Nazhoen scouts.

61 class six students from 26 different schools from across the country took part in the training.

“We taught them how to find a way to use a mobile phone if they are lost in the forest. They also learnt on what are edible things in the forest,” said Sangay Khandu, a facilitator.

“We taught them how to communicate with their friends, to respect teachers and parents and to care for the younger ones,” said Sonam Cheki Wangmo, another facilitator.

“The training was organised to enhance the leadership skills, scouting skills of Nachung scouts, develop the confidence in public gatherings and fulfil His Majesty’s vision,” said Sonam Penjor, Intern from Scouts and Sports Division under the Ministry of Education and Skills Development.

For participants, it has been a meaningful way to spend their winter vacation as they have gained new knowledge.

“We have also learned the values of scouting that comprises of the scout idols like who we are meant to be as a scout, like what we should be as a scout and what are our attributes and our contribution as a scout. That has inspired and opened my eyes as a scouting spirit. I think as a scout, these are the things we must do,” said Sangay Dema who attended the training.

“I have learned how to get prepared for the emergencies. I have also had the opportunity to learn about first aid and disaster preparations. I have also learned about the jungle survivable,” said Ngawang Penjor who also attended the training.

Since its establishment in 2013 upon the Royal Command of His Majesty The King, more than 2,000 scouts have undergone leadership training in the country.
