One fined, four warned for spreading hate messages and defamatory remarks against BTP

The Office of the Media Arbitrator has fined and issued a letter of public reprimand to an individual for multiple violations of ECB rules and regulations. Four other individuals were issued written warnings for spreading hate messages and defamatory remarks against the Bhutan Tendrel Party. 

According to the OMA, an individual named Chencho Dorji was fined Nu 15,000 and issued a letter of public reprimand for making defamatory remarks or hate speech against BTP’s North Thimphu candidate. OMA stated that he is a repeat offender.

He was also fined Nu 15,000 and was issued a written warning on 19th December last year for repeated sharing of videos containing hate messages in various WeChat groups.

In addition, another individual Karma was issued a written warning for making defamatory remarks and hate speech against BTP’s Nyishog_Saephu candidate.

Similarly, an individual named Lemo was warned for spreading hate speech and defamatory remarks against BTP in a Telegram group.

The OMA warned Sigay Dorji, an individual for making defamatory remarks and spreading hate speech against the BTP president.

The OMA also issued a written warning to another individual named Ugyen Dorji for third-party advertisement in favour of PDP on WeChat.
