The Office of the Media Arbitrator, OMA has fined an individual and issued written warnings to five others for violating electoral laws. These individuals have shared edited videos, and spread hate messages and defamatory remarks against the People’s Democratic Party.

An individual named Sangay Lhendup was fined Nu 15,000, for sharing an edited video in a WeChat group concerning PDP’s Kengkhar-Weringla candidate.

According to the OMA, he is a repeat offender. The man was issued a written warning on 19th December last year for third-party advertisement.

Similarly, OMA issued a written warning to Sangay Toenpa Jurchi, another individual for sharing the same edited video.

In addition, Ugyen Tshering, Damchoe Wangchuk and Sonam Yoezer were also given written warnings for spreading hate speech and defamatory remarks against PDP in several WeChat groups.

The OMA also warned an individual named Thinley in writing for spreading hate messages and defamatory remarks against PDP’s Thimphu candidates.  She has also shared a screenshot of a Facebook post involving false information against PDP’s North Thimphu candidate.
