In Sarpang, the two candidates vying for the Shompangkha Constituency’s National Assembly seat are promising voters that they would explore the possibilities of establishing a Yenlag Thromde and a mini-hydropower station in the constituency. The candidates declared this during their public debate on Monday.

At the debate held at Gelephu Lower Secondary School, Bhutan Tendrel Party’s candidate Lachuman Ghalley said his party would establish a Yenlag Thromde at Jangchubling where there is vacant state land if it comes to power.

Lachuman Ghalley said, “If the Bhutan Tendrel Party wins the general round and if we can start a Yenlag Thromde, it would benefit the people of nearby gewogs economically as they will have the opportunity to run businesses and get easy access to markets with the Gelephu Special Administrative Region coming up.”

Likewise, the People’s Democratic Party’s candidate Tek Bahadhur Rai said his party would work on establishing a mini-hydropower station for the people of Chhuzom Gewog at Sherabling if it wins the election.

Tek Bahadhur Rai said, “We think that it is feasible to install a mini-hydropower station at the site. It is included in our pledges and after carrying out proper feasibility studies, we will find out if it can be set up. If the result is positive, we will establish it.”

Shompangkha Constituency comprises five gewogs with 14,630 eligible voters.
