Much to the delight of the people, the road between Tarshithang and Gasa which is in need of maintenance will be maintained. During a recent common forum, candidates of both BTP and PDP from the two constituencies in Gasa pledged to carry out the maintenance works including widening and blacktopping works if they get elected.

The blacktop has worn off along the 48-kilometre road between Tarshithang and Gasa. Moreover, the residents said the road is narrow.

“The road between Tarshithang and Gasa is narrow and the blacktop has worn off within a year,” said Dorji, a resident.

“The road is not properly blacktopped. Moreover, the road was not properly widened. We are facing difficulties,” said Pema Dorji, another resident.

“It is difficult, especially for us who drive light vehicles. Since the road is narrow, there is a risk of accident,” said Pema Tashi, a visitor.

Although the district administration plans to widen the road in the 13th Five-Year-Plan, the candidates of the political parties of both Khatoed_Laya and Khamaed_Lunana constituencies are committing to widen and blacktop the road.

With such commitments and plans, the residents are hopeful that the road will be widened and blacktopped at the earliest.

“We are happy as they have committed that they will do it. We also think that they will be able to do it,” added Pema Dorji.

Dorji also added “we hope that they will carry out the work as pledged.”

Gasa was connected by road in 2011.
