The Special Early Voting for the General Round of the Fourth National Assembly Elections for persons with disabilities began today. According to the Election Commission of Bhutan, almost three thousand people living with disabilities will be casting their votes in the three-day Special Early Voting across the country.

In Thimphu, two teams commenced the collection of ballots from registered individuals within Thimphu Thromde for Special Early Voting from 8 in the morning, today.

There are over one hundred registered voters for the Special Early Voting in Thimphu.

Phub Tshering, a musician said, “We are very happy and grateful to the Election Commission of Bhutan for providing us with such services despite the huge costs. Although there are still some days left for the poll day, the ECB has given us an early opportunity. We don’t have to go to the polling stations instead, they come to our place to collect our votes.”

“His Majesty The King has granted people the gift of exercising one’s rights equally. Therefore, we need to exercise this special right,” said Karma Wangchuk, a student of the College of Natural Resources.

Dorji, a musician said, “We get the opportunity to vote only once in five years. Despite being disabled, His Majesty has granted us equal rights to vote. So, I took advantage of this service.”

“The Election Commission has made it very convenient for us by providing us such services. So, on behalf of all the people living with disabilities, I would like to say that we are very grateful,” said Kuenzang, a musical trainee.

Like in Thimphu, polling officers and police personnel across the country are facilitating mobile polling services.

The ECB has initiated Special Early Voting for people living with disabilities to ensure that individuals living with disabilities exercise their voting rights

The service is being provided to persons with disabilities, individuals suffering from chronic diseases, bedridden individuals, and those who are unable to physically reach the polling stations.
