The Mangdechhu hydropower project released Nu 14bn to the Government of India as loan repayment between January 2021 and July this year. The amount was repaid in six instalments with more than Nu 2bn in each instalment. The entire loan amounting to more than Nu 81bn is expected to be liquidated by July 2037.

The Mangdechhu hydropower plant generated close to 3 billion units of electricity between January and October this year. This takes the cumulative electricity generation of the hydropower plant since its commissioning to more than 13 billion units.

This translates to a revenue generation of Nu 10bn from January till September this year. The cumulative revenue from its commissioning till the end of September this year is Nu 53bn.

The Mangdechhu hydropower plant has four units each with a capacity to generate 180MW of electricity. The plant experienced an electricity generation loss of more than 155 million units before 2022 due to a failure in unit three. However, the unit has been restored in June this year and is operating smoothly now.

The 720 MW Mangdechhu hydropower plant generates an average annual revenue of Nu 12 bn by generating close to three billion units of electricity. Currently, a unit of electricity is being sold at a little over Nu 4.
