People of Tenzinwama (Tanzama) and Satsaloo villages in Norbugang Gewog of Pema Gatshel are counting the days to drive on a paved farm road. The long-awaited blacktopping works are underway and are expected to be complete by June next year. Once complete, the farm road will be one of the first farm roads to be blacktopped in the district.

The blacktopping works are in full swing along the eight-kilometre farm road that starts from the old check post at Rinchenthang.

The machines at the crusher plant are seen busy making aggregates and materials for the blacktopping work. The concrete mixture truck is preparing concrete to construct drains along the road.

Base course laying works are complete.

With the works inching closer to completion, villagers are excited as they will no longer have to put up with the bumpy ride.

“The road condition will become good after blacktopping. We won’t be facing problems while travelling. The paved road will help farmers have access to markets for their farm produce. We can also reach the hospital within a short period,” said Kezang Wangdi, a resident of Norbugang Gewog.

“Even Taxi drivers refused to come here saying that the road is bad. Once blacktopped, we hope to get taxis at a cheaper rate. We would be thankful if the works are completed before the rainy season,” said Tshewang Pemo, a resident of Norbugang Gewog.

The paved road will benefit some 70 households in Tenzinwama (Tanzama) and Satsaloo. More than 64 million ngultrum has been allocated for the blacktopping works.
