Doksum’s fuel depot to open soon, people of six gewogs expected to benefit

The challenge of travelling long distances to refuel cars in six gewogs in Trashi Yangtse will soon be eased. This is because the Druk Petroleum Corporation’s fuel station in Doksum, under Khamdang Gewog, will soon offer petroleum services.

Doksum serves as the gateway to many gewogs in Trashi Yangtse and is a business hub for Toedtsho, Jamkhar, Yalang, Khamdang, Tongmajangsa, and Ramjar Gewogs.

Vehicle owners in these gewogs must travel approximately 23 kilometres to Trashigang or 30 kilometres to the Trashi Yangtse town for refuelling their cars.

The construction of the fuel station in Doksum began a few years ago, and the local community has been patiently waiting for it to start operating as soon as possible.

Despite the completion of the infrastructure, vehicle owners are still unable to access services from the station, and they eagerly await its opening.

“We burn around 15 litres of fuel to get our vehicles refuelled. We already do not have much work here and having to go that far to refuel our trucks is becoming too expensive,” said Tenzin Dorji, a trucker.

“It would be beneficial to six gewogs of Trashi Yangtse if they provide their service as soon as possible as the place is a central point for several gewogs. Starting their operation as soon as possible would be a win-win situation for us and the company,” said Tshewang Sithar, a taxi driver.

In the meantime, the Druk Petroleum Corporation is on the verge of commencing services from the station in December this year.

The depot is complete with 8000 litres of diesel and 4000 litres of petrol already in stock. Additionally, they will soon have LPG cylinders available in their inventory.
