The Elections Commission of Bhutan will spend almost half a billion ngultrum for the upcoming National Assembly elections. The commission released more than Nu 35 M as campaign funds to the five political parties, yesterday.

As the country prepares for the fourth National Assembly elections, the ECB has projected that the primary and general rounds of elections will cost Nu 444.3 M.

The commission disbursed over Nu 7 M each to political parties to fund their campaign expenses.

The amount is for the primary round of elections, which is scheduled for the 30th of this month.

There will be 809 polling stations across the country.

The commission has deployed returning officers and national observers for the 47 constituencies.

A training was also held, last month for the returning officers, national observers, media arbitrators, and legal officers on deputation.

Likewise, over 3,000 polling officials will be deployed for the primary round.

The 2018 National Assembly elections cost almost Nu 440 M, while the 2013 NA elections were cheaper by over Nu 120 M. Similarly, only Nu 114 M was spent for the 2008 NA elections.
