The Natural Resources and Environment Committee of the National Council repealed the sections on prohibition, and offence and penalties of the Biological Corridor Nine Bill of Bhutan 2023, today. This was done to have uniform legislation as there will be a particular chapter on biological corridors in the rules and regulations regarding the Forest and Nature Conservation Act 2023.

Meanwhile, the National Council adopted the Biological Corridor Nine Bill of Bhutan 2023 and it will be forwarded to the National Assembly for re-deliberation. The Biological Corridor Nine connects Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary in Trashigang and Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary in Trashi Yangtse.

“We have decided to withdraw the prohibition chapter. It is because of the existing rules of 2006, 2011, 2017, and 2023. When we consulted with the members and the forestry officials, they said that the forestry officials would work on making a separate chapter on the biological corridor,” says Ugyen Tshering, the Natural Resources and Environment Committee’s chairperson.
