A 55-year-old man from Lhayuel village in Sarpang is recovering in the hospital after being mauled by a bear. The incident happened at about 10am yesterday.

According to the Chhuzom Gup, the man was collecting fodder for his cattle in a nearby forest at the time of the incident. The bear had severely wounded one of the man’s legs. He was discovered lying by the roadside by the Chiwog Tshogpa who rushed him to the nearest health centre.

From there, he was referred to the Gelephu Regional Referral Hospital. The man is currently in stable condition. The Gup added that while the villages are frequented by wild boars and bears to feed on crops, attacks on humans are rare.
