“We are happy to have such a Dzong today. It shows a sign of development and the district will further develop during our children’s time,” said Dorji Wangdi, another resident.
The offices of the district administration have been moved to the new Dzong since March this year.
Regarding the architecture of the Dzong, traditional Bhutanese design was blended with modern aesthetics. Intricate woodwork, vibrant murals, and spacious courtyards add to the magnificent structure.
The construction of Dzong was started in 2012 with a budget of Nu 610 M from the Government of India.
The construction was initially expected to be completed in 2018. However, the construction was delayed due to changes made to the drawing of the Utse.
The deadline was then postponed to June 2020 which was further delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
