Pema Gatshel’s new Dzong is finally complete. His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck inaugurated the Dzong today. The new structure located at Denchi was consecrated by the Tsugla Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang.

His Royal Highness Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck launched the plaque of the new Pema Gatshel Dzong.

The name Druk Migyur Dechen Dzong has been given by His Holiness the Je Khenpo.

The Tsugla Lopen Karma Rangdrol of the Central Monastic Body presided over the consecration ceremony. The Prime Minister, Home Minister, officials and lams and local people of Pema Gatshel also attended the ceremony.

“In the past, we did not have such a Dzong. But now we are fortunate to have a great Dzong. We are very happy,” said Cheki Wangchuk, a resident.

“We are happy to have such a Dzong today. It shows a sign of development and the district will further develop during our children’s time,” said Dorji Wangdi, another resident.

The offices of the district administration have been moved to the new Dzong since March this year.

Regarding the architecture of the Dzong, traditional Bhutanese design was blended with modern aesthetics. Intricate woodwork, vibrant murals, and spacious courtyards add to the magnificent structure.

The construction of Dzong was started in 2012 with a budget of Nu 610 M from the Government of India.

The construction was initially expected to be completed in 2018. However, the construction was delayed due to changes made to the drawing of the Utse.

The deadline was then postponed to June 2020 which was further delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
