The Bhutan Football Federation, BFF, is taking a stride towards professional coaching by joining the latest Member Association for Pro License coaching course. The Asian Football Confederation Professional Diploma Coaching Course started yesterday at the BFF Academy in Changjiji, Thimphu.

Ten head coaches from different football clubs in the country are participating in the course led by the lead tutor of AFC Pro-Diploma, who is also a former technical director of the Bhutan Football Federation.

The course consists of six modules, which will be taught in nine months. Four of the modules will be taught in the country. The remaining modules will be taught in India and Saudi Arabia during the same period.

“The diploma course is actually the highest professional qualification that you can attain. So, at the moment in AFC, we only have 13 countries that have attained this pro-diploma status. I must say that the BFF and I are extremely proud that the AFC has sanctioned this course for the first time in Bhutan,” said Vincent Subramaniam, Lead Tutor of AFC Pro-Diploma.

He added that the AFC delegates will assess the coaches based on practicals. Only then, the AFC will approve Bhutan’s membership.

“Coaching qualifications like this is an avenue to upgrade ourselves and also to understand the modern trends and advancements in football. Basically, the current course will also look at technical, tactical, and physical analysis of the 2022 World Cup. We definitely foresee a huge impact and change that this course will bring to the clubs and the nation at large,” said  Puspa Lal Sharma, a participant.

Participants say the course will enhance the quality of coaches and coaching education that is provided to football enthusiasts in the country.

The diploma course will end in May next year.
