Away from their daily duties of rituals and comfort in books, monks are a step closer to take an ICT to a new height in the Country. Launched in 2010, Chiphen Rigpel is an inclusive ICT project preparing even monks in national aspiration of an IT enabled knowledge economy.

With a training of 360 monks under the mega ICT project-Chiphen Rigpel, the Dratshang Lhentshog completes its target of the 10th Five Year Plan, to train 500 monks. More than 140 were trained by the Dratshang Lhentshog themselves.

At the award ceremony for their computing literacy, conducted through the support of Chiphen Rigpel and NIIT, the monks said ICT promises a new beginning.

“I think the computing training will help us especially when we are talking about e-governance, which is gaining popularity these days,” said one of the participants.

The Nu. 2.05 billion ‘Chiphen Rigpel’ is a multi-pronged project, committed to create an ICT enabled society in next two years.

In its third year today, the five-year project will have trained more than 25,000 leaders, youths, teachers and professionals, including monks through use of information and communications technology.
