India celebrates 77th Independence day

The Indian community in Thimphu gathered at the Indian Embassy to mark the 77th Independence Day of India. On behalf of Bhutan, the Gyalpoi Zimpoen presented Tashi Khadhar to the Indian Ambassador Sudhakar Dalela. The ambassador hoisted the Indian national flag. August 15 signifies the end of British rule over India in 1947 and the birth of an independent India.

At the event, Indian Ambassador Sudhakar Dalela read out President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the people of India. The ambassador said independence day reminds them that they are not merely individuals, but part of a great community of people.
