Availing advanced healthcare services such as consulting medical doctors, and taking X-rays and ultra-sound among others will be a step closer for the people of Drujeygang Gewog and its nearby gewogs in Dagana beginning next year. This is because the Dagana district administration is constructing a 10-bed hospital in Drujeygang Gewog. Currently, people of Drujeygang Gewog and its nearby gewogs visit either Dagapela Hospital in Dagana or Damphu Hospital in Tsirang.

The two-storey new hospital is being strategically constructed just below the existing Basic Health Unit. It has government institutions, offices and Drujeygang town in the catchment areas.

Today, concrete and other internal works are underway. The district health officer said over 70 per cent of works have been completed as of June. He said works are expected to complete ahead of its actual deadline in July next year.

And if the works are complete as expected, the district health sector has plans to make the hospital operational by January to February next year. The official also said the district health sector will deploy health officials and install services accordingly.

Currently, people in the gewog resort to using healthcare services from the gewog’s grade II BHU established in 1996.

They are all smiles with the new hospital under construction.

“The new hospital will benefit us greatly. It will help us save money and time since we will not have to hire vehicles to travel to distant hospitals. And at times, we don’t meet doctors after reaching there,” said Zangmo, a resident.

“We have a grade II BHU but we don’t get much services. We are happy to see a bigger hospital being constructed because travelling far for treatment is difficult and costly,” said Bir Maya Tamang, a resident.

“Once my son broke his hand but without an X-ray facility here, I had to take my son to Dagapela Hospital. Upon reaching there, we were referred to Gelegphu Hospital. But now we are happy that the new hospital will have advanced healthcare services along with a medical doctor,” said Cheni Lhamo, another resident.

Once complete, the hospital will also benefit nearby gewogs like Khebisa, Laja and Tsangkha Gewogs. The government is financing the project worth over Nu 39 M.
