Thousands of devotees are attending the week-long Moenlam Chhenmo at Samtse. His Holiness the Je Khenpo is presiding over the ceremony. The devotees say they are happy to have such ceremonies being held in the southern region.

“If there is no such kind of ceremony in Southern region, there is possibility of fading away the tradition and religion, especially for younger generation. Therefore, such kinds of initiative will not only bless people but will also protect and promote the country’s culture and heritage,” said Sintu, a local resident.

Pema Wangchuk said that they need not have to travel to other Dzongkhags to attend such Moenlam Chenmo.

Meanwhile, the ceremony is also an opportunity for the businessmen and the taxi drivers to make some extra cash. Some had come all the way from Gelephu and Phuntsholing to sell goods.

Samtse Meolam Chhenmo was started from 2011 under the Initiative of SamtseDzongkhag, local people, and businessman.

The annual event will conclude on 28th of this month with Nidup-Lawang blessings administered by His Holiness.
