Dorji Lopen appoints new lams of three monasteries

The Dorji Lopen of the Zhung Dratshang has appointed the new lams of three monasteries. The Dorji Lopon conferred Dhar to the new appointees at the Trashichhoedzong this morning.

46-year-old Gyeltshen from Wangdue Phodrang has been appointed as the new Lam of the Goenzen Dratshang in Chhukha. He became a monk at the age of eleven and studied at Sewla monastic school in Punakha. He graduated from the Tango University of Buddhist Studies in 2011. He completed his three-year retreat from Tango Drubdhey. Before his present appointment, he was the Principal of Sewla Shedra for seven years.

Meanwhile, 42-year-old Nado from Paro has been appointed as the new Lam of Rama Goempa in Thimphu. Lam Nado entered monkhood at the age of nine. He graduated from the Tango University of Buddhist Studies in 2006. He completed his three-year retreat from Tango Drubdhey and was in retreat at Doh Choeten Goenpa before his present appointment.

And 35-year-old Kinley Dorji from Wangdue Phodrang is the new lam of the Sibsoo military monastery in Samtse. He became a monk at the age of 14. He began his studies at Semtokha Shedra and graduated from Tango University of Buddhist Studies in 2015. Lam Kinley Dorji completed his three-year retreat from Tango Drubdhey. He previously served as a teacher for two years in a school.
