An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded at Samtenling, 200 meters below the Gelephu airport last night. The IED was planted inside a hole dug in an abutment of a small concrete bridge on the Gelephu-Sarpang Highway. It exploded at midnight. No damage was caused. The incident comes a day before the launch of the Gelephu airport. The Gelephu Police said the police and the army together will ensure the smooth launch of the airport tomorrow.

Every vehicle plying on the Gelephu- Sarpang Highway will be checked at every outpost of the army and the police along the highway from today itself. Night patrolling will also be beefed up.

This is the second IED explosion this month alone. The first one happened on the night of 16th October, where the IED was planted under the Bhur Khola Bridge.
