A 35-year-old man who was bitten by a rabid dog in Sarpang’s Tareythang Gewog towards the end of May is still in the intensive care unit on life support. According to a medical specialist at the Gelephu Central Regional Referral Hospital, the man is in critical condition. Since the outbreak of rabies was confirmed at the gewog, several animals have died due to the virus. Veterinary officials have confirmed four cases of rabies since the beginning of the outbreak. The three school children who were bitten by a suspected rabid dog have all been vaccinated and given necessary treatments. Efforts to contain the outbreak are ongoing, with the Regional Veterinary Hospital and Epidemiology Centre working along with Sarpang district’s livestock and health teams.
