In an effort to promote tourism and bring economic development to Pema Gatshel, a group of DeSuups through the DeSuup Takshel Programme has started a café and CSI local product outlet. This is the first time DeSuups of Pema Gatshel ventured into entrepreneurship.

The café and the outlet were inaugurated recently.

Currently, there are four Desuups at the shops and two are undergoing a skilling programme in culinary arts in Trashigang.

The products available at the outlet range from farm produce to woven clothes and religious items, all sourced from Pema Gatshel. Farmers will be able to sell their surplus dairy products to the outlet.

“After receiving the training, it would be a waste if we do not utilize our skills. The district administration is supporting us so that we are able to sustain our livelihoods,” said Tashi Wangdi, a Desuup.

“It is beneficial for unemployed Desuups like us. We joined the group and were operating it. The business was doing good till now and we are hoping for a better future,” said Phuntsho Wangmo, another Desuup.

Since it is located at Tshelingor along the Trashigang-Samdrup Jongkhar highway, the Desuups expect more customers and tourists to visit the shops and the district.
