Police in Samtse are investigating a case of alleged attempted rape involving a police officer, and five other men. According to sources, the individuals involved allegedly attempted to rape two high school students on separate occasions. All of them are under police custody.

The incident came into limelight after the girls aged 17 and 18, did not return home on 3rd June. According to sources, the parents sought assistance from police in searching for the girls. After two days, the police found them in Samtse town.

According to the statement given by the girls to the school, they shared accounts of the six men allegedly trying to rape them on different occasions individually.

After getting the statement from the girls, the school authorities then reported the case to the District Education Officer since it was criminal in nature. Subsequently, the case was forwarded to the police for further investigation.

For now, the health officials have ruled out the occurrence of pregnancy but the health officials did not share the details about the examination results on the possibility of rape. BBS also contacted the police but they refused to comment on the matter as the case is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the girls have returned to their school but authorities say they are being provided counselling services.
